World of Tanks: 50TP Prototyp, a new overpowered tank?

The Hussar’s are coming… Or is it just the 50TP Prototyp, Polish heavy tank? Wargaming has decided launched the tank on a pre-sale for all Premium Account holders, so if you are one of the paying customers you can now get this tank in your garage but is it worth it?

Czolg T wz51

Polish tanks have to be one of the most requested in the game and after such a long wait, the Polish Community will finally have its own nation in the game. But before we can play them, we can get the first true Polish tank ever in the game, Czolg T wz51 or now know as 50TP Prototyp. This will be a great crew trainer for your Polish tanks, as from Tier VII the branch will have heavy tanks exclusively. But how good will it be in the battlefield?

Early stats of this tank were clearly on the path to a new Object 252U “Defender”, so Wargaming as done some balancing on it and we now get to test it. When directly comparing the tank to a “Defender”, it can look a lot better than the second but, there are two crucial things that make this tank worse: firepower and armour.

Armour wise, while it does look like it has 170 mm frontal hull armour, this is only on a small area located at the driver’s hatch, the rest only has 110 mm, meaning you will have some difficulties to bounce as many rounds as you can with a “Defender”. It also has quite a few flat areas that as soon as you turn your tank become a problem, with lower Tier tanks being able to easily penetrate you there. And if you think the turret is much better, then think again because you will be able to bounce a few shots but if you are facing Tier IX and X vehicles, you will have a bad day. Last but not least, the turret roof armour is only 40 mm thick, meaning you can get overpenetration by any 120+ mm gun.

If that wasn’t enough, while it has a 122 mm gun with a good alpha damage, the ammunition lacks penetration. AP rounds have 218 mm, which isn’t bad for a Tier VIII tank, but APCR has 245 mm penetration power, meaning that if you are lucky enough to face a Super Heavy Tank, like for example Type 5 Heavy, you are going to struggle a lot to deal some damage.

Czolg T wz51

But not everything is bad, the tank is mobile for a heavy tank, good view range and it has an amazing gun depression that can reach an amazing 10 degrees when the gun is facing more to its sides. With this kind of gun depression, you can climb a hill and easily depress the gun enough if an enemy is to your left or right and connect your shot. And gun handling isn’t bad at all too, better than a Defender, which means you can brawl at medium range and still hit a weak spot.

With all of this can we say the 50TP Prototyp is overpowered? The tradeoff armour for better gun handling and soft-stats is a good trade, but the armour isn’t “idiot proof” as the Object 252U, so this means the tank has all requirements for a skilled player turn it into a good tank, but if you are a below average player, while you will be able to have a few decent battles, it won’t be so forgiving on your mistakes like an Object 252U.

In my opinion, this is a good tank for medium/decent skill players, as it can make decent credits and if played well, it can face Tier IX and X without much problem. But again, to be able to do this, you will need to be smart and play as a second line support tank, never try to be in the front of the battle or you will go back to the garage quite quickly. It’s not “idiot proof” overpowered like a “Defender”, it feels more like this is what Object 252U should have been from the beginning.

It’s been a while since last time I wrote a review, so please do let me know if you liked it, what needs to improve and what do you think about this tank in the comments below.

Tankfest 2017 brings a nice surprise to all tank fans: Tiger 131 is the latest Premium tank coming to World of Tanks, and offers German tank fans their first Tiger VI Premium Heavy. With this addition, the German nation is now in line with the Japanese and British with a Premium Heavy tank at Tier VI.

Description

The only Pz. Kpfw. VI Tiger in full working order. The vehicle was captured by the British 48th Royal Tank Regiment in Tunisia on April 21, 1943, and repaired later. It was shipped to the United Kingdom the same year. The British performed a full examination of the tank, and made it an exhibit item at Bovington Tank Museum in 1951.

Analysis and Opinion

How good can a stock Tiger I perform at Tier VI? This will be one of the main questions, and to be honest it’s easy to answer: Good! Tiger 131 is a good tank for it’s Tier, and finally we get to own this iconic tank on World of Tanks. But aside from that, I can’t say this is such a special tank to play.

Generally speaking, if you face Tier VI or lower, you will perform quite well with it, as long as you know how to play with the tank. Tiger I is by no means a front line pusher tank. Instead, you have to use your armour at medium distance and your accuracy at long distance.

Never forget you are playing with the 8,8 cm Kw.K. 36 L/56, your penetration is quite low compared to other tanks. With only 145 mm average penetration with an AP shell, the tank will struggle against heavily armoured vehicles like the O-I. But with an insane damage per minute this tank can be lethal if positioned correctly in the battlefield.

Players are advised to avoid main areas of confrontation, instead try to find a flanking position and use your DPM to support your team and annihilate the enemy team. If you are facing higher tier enemies, you will need to flank them or in some cases use APCR to be able to penetrate their armour. Unfortunately this tank faces Tier VIII and you will have to avoid them at all costs, instead of wasting your ammunition on them, try to find targets of the same Tier or one Tier above.

Mobility is decent but the Tiger 131 isn’t a fast tank, trying to win a forward position with it can, in most cases, prove to be fatal. Keep your distance, use your mobility to change flanks and at the same time support your team from a hull down position. With it’s decent armour and proper angling you will be able to side-scrape with relative effectiveness, especially when top-tier or facing tanks of the same tier.

Overall it’s a decent tank when facing tanks of the same tier, but when facing tanks of higher tier I did struggle to get a decent battle with it. If you already own a Japanese Heavy Tank No. VI you won’t see much difference between the two, in fact they are the exact same tank but with a different skin.

I can recommend the tank as a first Premium Tank for beginners, it’s easy to learn how to play, ammo and repairs are cheap and at Tier VI it’s relatively easy to make credits. But, if you already own good credit makers and you are looking for something new, this is definitely not the tank for you. A must for any collector or if you want a Zero-Skill BiA Crew, but it’s pretty much it. Last but not least, the tank will be available arround Tankfest and it will cost in the rage of $19.99/17.99€/15.99£ (prices are estimated on tank Gold value).

Lorraine 40t Review by Harkonnen

Hello everyone,

Another upcoming Premium Tank has been credited as a rental into my account so I could test it, but this time I believe is something a lot of you have been waiting for: Lorraine 40t. The old Tier IX French Medium Tank that got replaced by the Bat.-Châtillon 25t AP is now making a return as a Premium Tier VIII Medium tank and it will be the first ever Tier VIII autoloader premium added to the game and will cost approximately 40€, should be in the store in the next few days.

Description

This experimental French tank was developed during the 1940s. Two prototypes were manufactured in 1952. In addition to the oscillating turret, the vehicle featured suspension with air-core tires and pike nose armour. The design passed trials, but never entered mass production.

Analysis and Opinion

First let’s just say this tank fits so much better the French Medium branch as a crew trainer and enables players to learn how to play Top Tier French auto loaders, with only three crew members you can now finally train that Bat.Chat. crew without the need of getting an extra crew member just to be able to use a Premium tank.

The Lorraine 40t used to be a tank where players either loved it or hated it, being moved to Tier VIII hasn’t change this. If you did like the tank when he was a Tier IX, you will like it now, but if you never liked the tank so much… You might find it hard to like it now that it’s a Tier VIII.

It’s mobility is excellent, with a 850 hp engine it can deliver an amazing 21.07 hp/t specific power, meaning it doesn’t struggle to move anywhere even up a hill. With great terrain resistances and traverse speed, maneuvering and re-positioning won’t be a problem and these actually two of the tank strengths. But don’t forget, your armour is non existent, if you choose to go face to face with your enemies you will quickly regret that decision. Having such weak armour means you will have to play second line on a support role, helping your team to drain the enemies health points. You should never try to play on the front line has a damage dealer, not just the armour wouldn’t be able to stand any fight, but together with the fact the tank is an auto loader with only four shells you would get out of action very quickly.

The tank is more of a flanker, or support like I said before, but can also be a good finisher. If you find yourself in a position where your teammates are dealing some damage, wait for the right moment and poke out on that enemy that just fired and has low health points to finish him, then just retreat back to reload and repeat the process. Or if you prefer a lone wolf role, try to outflank your enemies using your mobility, while your team engages on a front line, try to find your way around so you can pick your enemies from their side and cripple them from their health points. With the decent aiming time value and gun accuracy, it won’t be hard to engage your enemies from 200 to 300 meters.

With eight degrees of gun depression, you can easily use the terrain to give you some cover, but don’t forget you are not an American tank that can play hull down and any tank from Tier VI upwards can easily penetrate your turret.

And what about credit making ability, you might ask. Well, I can say it’s a very decent tank when it comes to make credits, and as per usual, I do share my non Ace Tanker battle where you can see an average decent battle and how much profit the tank is able to do.

Overall it’s a decent Premium tank and something I might add to my collection. I’ve felt very comfortable playing with it and I haven’t felt this way with any Premium tank released recently. Maybe because I do enjoy playing with medium tanks and auto loaders, if this is your cause, then it’s a tank you can’t miss out.

The Good & Bad

Good

  • Amazing standard ammo penetration for a Medium;
  • Good damage per minute for an auto loader;
  • Good specific power and acceleration;
  • Good mobility and terrain resistances;
  • Amazing top speed of 60km/h.
  • Auto Loader

Bad

  • Paper armour;
  • High silhouette;
  • Only four shells on its clip;

Should you buy it?

Reasons to Buy

  1. You are looking for a French Premium to train your crew;
  2. You’re a Tank Collector;
  3. You like French Tanks;
  4. Better alternative to CDC or M4A1 Revalorisé;
  5. Better to train French Medium Crews.

Reasons to NOT Buy

  1. You’re a scrub lord and don’t want to support WG in anyway;
  2. You already have several good Premium money makers;
  3. You’re not comfortable playing French tanks with auto loader;
  4. You don’t like paper armour tanks;

Analysis and Opinion

One of the rarest tanks in the game available for one day, but is it worth getting? My first impression when I started playing it was: nop!

It takes a few games to get used to it and after you learn how it plays, it becomes a decent Premium Heavy Tank. The tank is not a flanker or nor you will be able to fight for key positions with it, with it’s top speed of 29 km/h you will feel sluggish compared to other tanks, but it’s 14.17hp/t of specific power means you will get to your top speed very quickly and it won’t look so slow when climbing a hill.

When it comes to armour, the tank has a lot of it frontally but as soon as you start giving you side to any enemy aiming at you, your hit points will go from 1,500 to 0 very fast. Also be aware there is a weak spot at the front of the turret, where one area is 152.4mm and any gun with 198mm average penetration will get you there. Its side armour and rear armour are very weak too, so try to keep your frontal armour towards your enemies.

1

But you are playing against it, the first instinct is to track the tank and see if you can deal some damage at the front wheel. Don’t fall for this, because as you can see, the tanks is very well protected frontally and it has a very weird armour shape, plus the tracks offer 20mm more amour. Also if you are shooting at it on its side, remember there is 25mm space armour protecting the tracks, so try to shoot at the upper area of the hull’s side.

2

When it comes to gun handling, it’s almost like playing with a T32 but you will never have to fight Tier X vehicles. 198mm average gun penetration might seem low, but you won’t have much problems facing almost any vehicle. The only vehicles that will be your nemesis, will be Super Heavy Tanks like the Type 4 Heavy, VK 100.01P or the Mauschen because you will struggle to penetrate any of these vehicles.

Also if you get matched in a Tier IX match, do your best to avoid direct confront with Tier IX vehicles, their guns won’t have much problems penetration your frontal armour.

But can everything be bad or just average? Well, no. You can use some of your weakness to your advantage, for example your height. The tank is very tall, so if you face hug or engage enemies at very short range you actually can negate their armour because you will be shooting them from a higher position. An example of this is the IS-3, it’s a very low tank that relies on it’s steep armour angles, by engaging it at a closer range you will be able to penetrate it’s frontal or turret roof armour. Also the tank has very good gun depression, so play hull down and you will see the full power of the tank, but remember your accuracy isn’t the best, so take your time aiming your shots and make them count.

Overall I liked the tank, but I don’t consider it one of the best tanks out there. It can easily do credits if you get a decent amount of damage, but it can become very expensive to play if you miss your shots because each shell costs 1,000 credits.

There are better alternatives out there, like the T26E5 and even maybe the T34, but overall when I compare the M6A2E1 to the T34, I would prefer the first because of it’s matchmaking and because it’s slight better mobility. But if you are looking for that special premium, then the T26E5 is without a doubt the best one out of the three.

The Good & Bad

Good

  • Good frontal armour;
  • Good gun depression;
  • Special Matchmaking;
  • Decent base view range of 380 meters;
  • Good aim time;
  • Good credit maker.

Bad

  • Mediocre Damage per Minute;
  • Bad side armour;
  • Very big and tall;
  • Bad top speed and bad terrain resistances;
  • Gun dispersion;
  • Slow turn speed and turret traverse speed.

Should you buy it?

Reasons to Buy

  1. Special Matchmaking
  2. You’re a Tank Collector
  3. It’s one of the rarest tanks in the game

Reasons to NOT Buy

  1. You’re a scrub lord and don’t want to support WG in anyway
  2. You already have several good Premium money makers
  3. If you don’t like the T34, you won’t like the M6A2E1
  4. Very expensive bundle price
  5. There are better alternatives like the T26E5

Strv S1 Review by Harkonnen

Hello everyone,

I’ve been given a test account to try out the upcoming Swedish Premium Tank Destroyer: Strv S1. Players will be able to get it very soon on the Premium Shop, for approximately 40€. The Strv S1 will be first Tier VIII Premium Tank available for the Swedish Nation and also the first Premium with Siege Mode.

Description

The development of an advanced tank for Swedish army was performed by Sven Berge. First drafts of the unique vehicle were developed in 1956. By 1961, the design of the new vehicle was finalized, and a wooden prototype was built. Later, the first Strv S1 prototype was build and used for testing of the new type of suspension, which allowed for vertical aiming of the rigidly mounted gun. The Strv S2 was developed by the end of 1962. Both prototypes became the basis for the mass production of the Strv 103 tank.

Analysis and Opinion

Overall stats are very decent for a Tier VIII Premium Tank Destroyer, gun handling is amazing and the gun is pretty accurate. Getting into Siege Mode or “unsiege” it’s quicker than other Swedish tanks, with only 2s to siege and 1.5s to unsiege. Speed while on siege mode is 8 km/h, 3 km/h more than the UDES, which makes it easier to maneuver when trying to poke over a rig line.

DPM can be just a bit short of 3,000 and that’s amazing, as long as you get a good position and are able to connect your shots, you won’t have much problems making a profit. Shell velocity of 1,450 m/s for standard ammo with 288 average penetration means it’s not difficult to hit a moving target and you won’t need Premium Ammo to penetrate, only if you are facing Tier IX and X heavily armoured tanks.

But when it comes to mobility, this is not the best of tanks. With a 540 hp engine, you are able to reach 50 km/h as top speed and 45 km/h reverse speed, but the tank weights 33.4t, resulting in a low specific power of 16.17 compared to the 26.37 you get on UDES. It’s armour is very weak, but with a great angle, so if you are facing enemies with guns up to 90mm, you actually stand a change on using the armour. But if you are matched against Tier IX and X, like you will constantly get, their guns are over 120mm they can penetrate your armour anywhere they want and with just 1,000 hit points, you won’t be able to take much punishment.

The tank doesn’t have much problems fighting against Tier IX and X, so if you are matched against them, just remember to stay back, use your stealth and DPM, this tanks is a stealth demon just like the E-25. If you are Top Tier, don’t try to push your team into victory, because this tank will fail if you try to use it as an assault tank.

So, what’s my general opinion of the tank? I’m more of an aggressive player and I just can’t play with the Siege Mode at the moment. The tank is good if you are able to play from a defensive mode, if you are unlucky to get a team that gets overrun quickly, you won’t be able to do much.. It’s a good tank but just for a few people. Siege mode is hard to get used to it and if you haven’t experienced the Swedish high tier tank destroyers, I wouldn’t recommend jumping into this tank straight away. It’s a decent credit maker, but just like the Swedish top tier tank destroyers, it’s hard to play and master.

The Good & Bad

Good

  • Amazing standard ammo penetration;
  • Amazing shell velocity for standard ammo;
  • Excellent gun depression;
  • Good damage per minute;
  • Amazing aim time in siege mode;
  • Good terrain resistances in siege mode;
  • 390 Alpha Damage on it’s gun.

Mediocre

  • 540 Engine Power, gives it a sluggish feeling.
  • Only 1,000 Hit Points, means it can’t take a hit;
  • Armour is OK versus guns up to 90mm, but anything above will overpen.

Bad

  • Siege mode makes it impossible to use it as an assault tank;
  • Only performs if used in a defensive mode;
  • 350m view range means you will have to equip binoculars.

Should you buy it?

Reasons to Buy

  1. You are looking for a Swedish Premium to train your crew;
  2. You’re a Tank Collector;
  3. You like Swedish Tanks;
  4. You fell confortable with Siege Mode;

Reasons to NOT Buy

  1. You’re a scrub lord and don’t want to support WG in anyway;
  2. You already have several good Premium money makers;
  3. You’re not comfortable playing Swedish tanks with siege mode;
  4. Hard to master because of Siege Mode.

Analysis and Opinion

The first impression you might have is this is another copy of the M26 Pershing, but don’t be fooled because it’s not. The T25 Pilot (for short of T25 Pilot Number 1) was a project to equip a T23 with a 90mm gun, and this is what you are going to get in the game.

It’s very similar to a T23E3 in everything, for the ones who are lucky enough to have it you are going to notice how close the T25 in terms of gameplay, but instead of playing with a Tier VII with special matchmaker, you are going to get a Tier VIII with normal matchmaker.

But fear not, the T25 is a Tier VIII but has Medium Tank matchmaker, in every 10 battles you are going to get (estimated values based on my experience) two Tier X matches, 4 Tier IX matches and another 4 Top Tier. In fact sometimes you might actually be Top Tier more times than you are mid or lower tier.

So, for the ones who don’t have a T23E3, what does it mean when I compare it to one? Well, the amazing gun handling, amazing terrain resistance, great reload time for a medium, very mobile and agile makes this medium tank a true medium. It’s faster than a M26 Pershing or a M46 KR, but its engine only has 530 hp, meaning the acceleration and power/weight ratio is only 14.20b hp/t, lower compared to these two tanks. Armour is weak for a medium tank, it can’t withstand a hit, meaning you will have to play second line or at the rear sniping your enemies. With -10º gun depression and a strong mantlet you can use this tank to hull down and engage your enemies, but don’t be over confident with it. While it can bounce some shells, you can be easily penetrated on the turret sides and commander copula.

It’ has the highest DPM compared to the M46 KR, Super Pershing and a M26 Pershing, with an impressive 2,237 with a fully trained crew and equipment. But not everything is good in this tank. Like I mentioned the armour is very weak for a Tier VIII, meaning you can get penetrated even by lower Tier tanks. If you are Top Tier in a match it doesn’t mean the tank will be strong enough to lead the team to a victory. The normal round is AP and it’s quite slow (853m/s), just like the Hellcat, this means you have to carefully aim before you take a shot on a moving target. But could I say better about the Premium round? Well, it’s APRC and that means it’s faster (1021m/s) but it’s penetration power is quite low with only 243mm. This means you won’t be able to penetrate those well armoured heavy tanks frontally and some times even on their sides. This is when it’s mobility comes as a positive, using it you can flank an enemy or just change position in order to engage an easier target.

Overall the tank performs well if it’s Top Tier and you won’t have much problems playing against Tier IX, but as usual the tank can’t do much in a Tier X match, so don’t expect great results if you are facing them.

So, is it worth the time of doing 13 daily missions? Well, you can get a decent Premium Tank for free, so in my opinion that is always worth the time. But if you don’t have time to complete all 13 missions and you already have other American Premium Medium Tanks, then you won’t be missing out much.

The Good & Bad

  • Excellent gun depression;
  • Good accuracy, aim time and gun dispersion while moving and turning turret

Object 252U Review by Harkonnen

Hello everyone,

I’ve been given a test account to try out the upcoming Russian Premium Heavy Tank: Object 252U. The tank will be available in two options: Object 252U and Object 252U Defender, where the second one it’s the same tank but with a permanent hero camouflage.

Note this will be the first Hero Tank available for the EU Server without it’s Hero Camouflage. Seems Wargaming decided to listen to players…

I will be giving you an honest opinion about the tank and share with you my experience with it over the 40 battles I’ve played with it.

Description

A draft project, prepared during the development of the IS-6 heavy tank. The draft was completed by the end of 1944. Later, work on the IS-6 was stopped, and the development of the project was discontinued. The vehicle never entered service.

Armour

Analysis and Opinion

If you get this tank, make sure you remember it’s aim time and accuracy are terrible. This means you will need to get this stats buffed as much as possible. To achieve this it’s highly recommended you get a decent crew with Snap Shot, Smooth Ride and Brothers in Arms. Equip your tank with Ventilation, Large Caliber Rammer and Vertical Stabilizer. (See values above marked in green).

The tank will get matched against Tier X all the time, in over 40 battles I was Top Tier about… 6 times. Armour is decent and it can troll your enemies to the point of using HE because they can’t penetrate you, even if they are Tier IX or X.

But, as a troll the armour can troll you too, specially if they know where to penetrate your armour. While the hull armour behaves like an IS-7 and if you angle it it can be almost impenetrable for Tier VIII and lower, there is a big weakness on it: commander and loader hatch on the turret.

They are weak with just 150mm armour on it, almost any tank can penetrate it, meaning even if you angle your tank, a Tier VII or even a Tier VI shooting APCR will melt your hit points like a hot knife through butter.

Another weak spot, but harder to hit, is the roof just after the drivers hatch. This area here is only 30mm thick, meaning any gun over 90mm calibre will overmatch it. It’s protected by a 250mm shield that makes it hard to hit, but if you shoot the gun mantle your shot can bounce off to the roof and penetrate it. Of course this second option is harder to do, but it did happen to me a few times.

When it comes to mobility, it’s just another Russian Tank, it’s not fast but it has decent terrain resistances, meaning it does turn around and moves quite easily. The major problem I had while playing it was the gun handling, it’s just plain terrible. I was constantly missing fully aimed shots when trying to side scrape with the tank, even at close range. If you are moving and suddenly stop the tank to turn your turret and try to shot at an enemy, you find yourself wasting a round because the gun just decided to shot Wargaming Moon Base while fully aimed at the enemy tank 300m away. This is not a sniper tank, you will need to get close to your enemies to be able to fight them.

Some players will call this an idiot proof tank but I don’t quite agree. I believe this tank is like an IS-6 and IS-5, it’ looks nice on paper, but in the end you need to be a very decent player to make it work. The IS-6 has special match making and that it’s what it makes it good, but you still see average players complain about it.

In my most honest opinion, as soon as we start seeing more of these out there in the battlefield, this won’t look OP as it looks now. Let’s face it, any Unicum can make this tank look awesome and OP, but the majority of players out there are just average players, this means it won’t perform 100,000 credit battles all the time, if you get 1 of these battles every 20 you are lucky.

That said, it does make a good amount of credits per battle. I found myself, even on defeats, making over 50,000 credits profit per battle (with premium account). So in some way this can be a noob friendly tank, because if you do an average 1,600 damage per battle you can still make a decent profit. But if we compare this with an IS-6, the IS-6 can actually be better because of it’s special match making. Not having to face Tier X means you will be able to get a higher average damage per battle, resulting in more credits.

The tank is as good as the player, that is true, but if you are just an average player but there are other tanks out there that are very easier to master.
